In the sequel to K-Pop Confidential, Candace is a Rookie idol。 Her life is suddenly filled with the fans, cameras, and glamor of stardom: She and her boyfriend, YoungBae, are a K-Pop power couple; she’s a walking icon at Brandt Foreign School; and her new girl group, known simply as THE GIRLS, is poised to break records across the industry。 With her status as the industry’s K-Pop Warrior, she has all the clout at her disposal to make waves。 Right?

Her label, S。A。Y。, promises to help make the sweeping changes for the industry to become a more humane and compassionate place for artists。 But what will happen when the road to a record-breaking debut isn’t as smooth as they’d planned? When a rival girl group emerges to steal the spotlight, carrying the message of change better than Candace ever could, she’ll have to decide what it’ll cost her and her bandmates to stand up for their beliefs。 And as the world turns against her, with online bullies scrutinizing her every word, there’s only so much that one person can take。

From the top of the world to the brink of disaster, Candace is going to have to figure out why the world is out to get her。 And she’s not going to be able to do it alone。

READ IT! I'd like to convince myself that I am much more familiar with the K-pop industry now than I was back when I read book 1, but the truth is that maybe I have been looking at it only from my rose-tinted glasses as a fangirl and haven't really let myself look past that to find out what exactly goes on behind the bright lights, extensive outfits and fierce demeanors。 That way, K-Pop Revolution is an eye-opener, much like its predecessor, but it is much more personal, much more relatable than K-Pop Confidential。 So much of Candace and her friends' struggles seems so much like the person that every average person goes through on a daily basis, not something only the ultra glamorous and famous K-Pop idols do。 One of my favourite tropes has been employed in this book : hero loses sense of self, goes wayward, almost turns into the sort of person they detest, and then 。。。 (not gonna spoil it for you heheh) I do love myself a messy redemption arc that strips your favourite characters down to their worst pieces and paints them in hideous colors, almost enough for you to hate them too, but then pulls through and makes you empathize with them and relate to them, and ultimately love them again。 It's one of the biggest influences that writers hold, I believe, this power to make us hate or love their characters at the drop of a hat, and Stephan Lee is a master at it。 With some of those plot twists, you'll find yourself wondering if it's a red herring you're following or if it's an actual concern, and your emotions will be all over the place。 Alright, let's get into what my favourite things about K-Pop Revolution are: 1。 Candace Park and her vulnerability - I've always said that my favourite traits about characters in books are what makes them relatable to me : their insecurities, their worst moments that bring out the worst in them, and their 'downfall' beats, and it's probably because these traits act as soothing balms on my own experiences and memories of things I have done in the past。 Nobody wants to be mean, or hurtful, or do and say things they don't sincerely mean when they're feeling not at their best, and seeing characters do all that and still emerge lovelier and more beautiful at the end of it all is truly such a warm comforting hug。 I definitely do not not condone some of things Candace thought and did in this book, and there were places where I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her so she could see how hurtful she was being to people who mattered to her, but at the end of the day, she pulled through and definitely emerged as one of my favourite characters in this duology (rightfully so! She's the main protagonist of course :D) 2。 All the red herrings : believe me when I say, there are a LOT of red herrings in this book, ones you will probably expect, and those won't materialize, and others you wont expect, which will materialize。 It's a wild roller coaster ride so be ready to feel a lot of things a lot of different ways and be thoroughly entertained! 3。 All the warm moments : while K-Pop Revolution does have a lot of moments that would probably make you lose hope about the world as a whole and make you feel down, there are also lovely, wholesome moments that will make space for themselves in your heart and leave you feeling comforted and warm again <3 Mr。 Min is definitely the highlight for me in this aspect。 NEVERIDOL also is a HUGE source of comfort, and I won't say anything much without spoiling this book for you。 READ IT ASAP。4。 The K-Pop talk : One of the reasons I picked up book 1 was because I'd just gotten into listening to K-Pop and watching K-Dramas, and I wanted more of things set in the same setting and atmosphere, and K-Pop Confidential was there for me when I needed it。 It's no different with K-Pop Revolution for me, the only difference being that I am beginning to love the world of entertainment more and more with each book that I read that is set in such settings。 Yes, the K-Pop industry is problematic, yes it is toxic in certain ways (these things I cannot really comment on since I'm not well-versed in all things K-Pop, nor am I qualified enough to provide commentary without depending heavily on assumptions and things I have heard without using concrete proof to back them up) - but it is also one of the biggest entertainment phenomena in the world, maybe even the biggest, so it is feels absolutely thrilling to me to be reading a book set in that setting with all its glamour, idols, make up and costumes, choreography, performances and MV recording processes and things like that。 All in all, if you like : > Girl power moments > Wholesome, fierce, loyal friendships> K-Pop setting> Cute AF dating> Redemption arc that is filled with messy and wholesome moments > books that make you thinkThen K-Pop Revolution is for you! Final verdict : 4。75 stars on 5 stars for this explosive, drama-packed, thrilling book that is sure to make you angry and furious and also happy, relieved and comforted at the same time! #K-PopRevolutionIsAMustRead 。。。more

I think this book was a perfect conclusion to Candace’s journey to becoming an Idol。 Is it a little cheesy sure but it does definitely talk about issues that are well know in the Kpop industry and doesn’t hold back。 Thanks to Edelweiss for letting me read this early, I really enjoyed it。

Big thanks to Edelweiss for making my dream come true!Quick note: I own two copies of K-Pop Confidential and one of them is signed and I will flex that until the day I die。 Ok, reasons to read: this doesn't suffer from the sophomore slump。 At。 All。 Also, idols, MVs to die for and an ending that will have you screamingPersonal rating: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, this book is definitely an 11! (that's an IVE reference btw。 ;)Candance is feeling the repercussions of her tea spilling at the end of book one, but things start to look up when SAY decides to use her popularity to debut her after all。 They say they're trying to change the way things are done in the industry。 Que in the real hard work。 On top of school, Candance has to balance dance practice, friendships, and making sure she stays true to herself。 The stakes have been raised。 THE GIRLS have become one of the most anticipated K-pop groups of all time。My favorite thing about these books is that the author keeps us in a state of fantasy while dripping into some sad facts of reality in the K-pop industry, but it was the state of the girl's feet that truly shocked me。 I reminded me of an interview I read a while back about a K-pop star who talked about how deformed her feet became after becoming an idol。 Those long hours of practicing and touring and fan meets etc must be Hell。 It continues to surprise me how determined K-pop trainees are and how long they train for that tiny chance of debuting someday while some never get a chance in the spotlight。 Never mind the strict diets, dating bans, and the fact that the industry sucks the life of these groups。 But there is always room for change and I feel like some of the things Candance fought for could become a reality in K-pop nowadays。 I went off on a tangent and I am NOT editing that bit because my fingers are cramping bahahaOverall, I devoured this book。 I have some predictions for book three (there is going to be one, right?) and I hope it goes the way I see it going, but knowing the author, he's going to blow it out of the park。 Fans of the first book are going to LOVE this one。 :DBookstagram 。。。more

I went into this series completely blind after hearing intense demands for the sequel。 All I knew was that we would be following the K-Pop journey of a Korean American trainee。 It's so easy to make assumptions now that K-Pop is more widespread in western media, but this book had so much more depth than I expected。In K-Pop Confidential, we follow Candace Park as she moves to Korea to become an idol trainee but soon realizes that it's much more difficult than she anticipated。 From the culture shoc I went into this series completely blind after hearing intense demands for the sequel。 All I knew was that we would be following the K-Pop journey of a Korean American trainee。 It's so easy to make assumptions now that K-Pop is more widespread in western media, but this book had so much more depth than I expected。In K-Pop Confidential, we follow Candace Park as she moves to Korea to become an idol trainee but soon realizes that it's much more difficult than she anticipated。 From the culture shock and feeling as though she's an outsider in her native country to the restrictive rules set by the entertainment agency, Candace struggles to achieve her dreams without losing herself。 Unfortunately, she finds herself in the middle of a massive scandal at the end of book 1 when she speaks up about the injustices she and her fellow trainees endured。 The sequel picks up a week after Candace had been expelled from her agency and became beloved across the world as the #KPopWarrior and the face for change in the industry。 As she now represents improving conditions for idols, she finds that it's far more difficult than she ever imagined。 What I truly love about these books is that the injustices between boys and girls are called out so well here。 Both groups are separated in order to motivate the others to push themselves to extremes, but while the boys get away with scandals, the author points out that girls are 'just forgiven for less。' I got a chance to speak to him about the messages in the books and why he chose to write from Candace's point of view, and the simple answer is that girls are cool。 :) But seriously, girls are targeted more because of cultural expectations, and that we should know better so while mistakes made by boys are considered forgivable, those made by girls are seen as intentional。Throughout the books, nothing Candace does is ever *scandalous* but things easily get blown so far out of proportions and everyone is constantly looking for a scapegoat。 It became quite difficult for me to read when Candace was at her lowest point because I became so emotional at how quickly the world turned against her。 Keep in mind that real life idols actually go through the same struggles。 Women are so easily vilified and blamed, and no industry is exempt from this。 When asked about why he showed the darker side of KPOP, Stephan explained that he wanted to show that KPOP is capable of change for the better。 Candace may not be a sword-wielding fantasy heroine, but even this teenager was able to use her voice to speak up for those who couldn't and inspired change around the world。I'm happy to see that K-Pop is now more widely accepted more than ever。 The rise of Korean and Asian entertainment has been such a blessing because we all know representation is important。 While the K-Pop demand for perfection has been intense, it's great to see this relaxing and normalizing imperfection。 。。。more

Let me start by saying I lost sleep over this book。 It's one of those books that you start in the evening but absolutely have to stay up and finish。After getting accepted to debut in the first ever girl K-Pop band from S。A。Y。 Industries, Candace blows up her career before it can even start by calling out the gender bias among the company。 However, she's surprised by the positive feedback she receives from the fans。 They support her and want S。A。Y。 Industries to bring her back。 They also support Let me start by saying I lost sleep over this book。 It's one of those books that you start in the evening but absolutely have to stay up and finish。After getting accepted to debut in the first ever girl K-Pop band from S。A。Y。 Industries, Candace blows up her career before it can even start by calling out the gender bias among the company。 However, she's surprised by the positive feedback she receives from the fans。 They support her and want S。A。Y。 Industries to bring her back。 They also support her relationship with Youngbae, which is frowned upon by the company。 With the overwhelming affect Candace has on the K-Pop industry, S。A。Y。 has no other option but to sign her on。 This time, it's with new management and a female CEO。 So things have to be better, right? As she navigates through the K-Pop world, Candace realizes how different things are when you're in the spotlight。 Things like dating become harder and the fans can be quick to turn against you。 Especially when another girl K-Pop group blows up and beats THE GIRLS in a music contest。 It becomes more and more difficult for Candace to determine the difference between friends and those who are out to get her。 Soon, she's finds her stress levels increasing and her mental health at risk。 She has to do something fast to appease her fans and balance out her life as a star。K-POP REVOLUTION is a riveting sequel to the YA Contemporary book K-POP CONFIDENTIAL where we see the music industry taking a drastic turn。 The story focuses on Candace while also challenging all of the norms。 The girl group called NEVERIDOL is composed of so many diverse characters and I love the different representations in this book。 With the popularity K-Pop growing, this is the perfect duology for today's times。 There's still that hint of romance but I like how it still isn't the focus of the story。 I do wish there was a little more, but at the same time it makes this plot that much more unique。Final Verdict: I recommend this for K-Pop fans who enjoy a diverse cast of characters。 K-POP REVOLUTION is inspiring and encourages others to chase their dreams no matter what obstacles sit in the way。 。。。more
